OCHIBA SHIGURE (AUTUMN LEAVES ON WATER)

Sited within the Kawarigoi classification which has beenpreviously been described as a “crossbreed and oddity”

It was developed from breeding programmes between Chagoi andSoragoi, Chagoi and Ogon and more recently Chagoi and Kohaku.

There are Doitsu Ochiba Shigure but are reported as beingfew and far between and a good example highly prized.

    Ochiba
Shigure are said to be one of those koi that do notshow their true
beauty until they have reached adult, and sometimes jumbo size.
    Things to look for –

The delicate vignette effect of scaling should be of high definition and clarity

Patterns are not specific but should be balanced, pleasing to the eye and in sharp contrast to the base colour
The head should display both colours

    I got a tiny one from holmeswood koi...bit of a gamble at a 2-3 " purchase ..lol but i like it .

Loved the nose spot ...and its a grower ..now a massive 3-4 " Very Happy

Seriously, its put on some bulk and about 1 " in three weeks so i expect (hope) for 8 - 10 " by the end of the season . Only hope the pattern and colour stays .

if that pattern and scalation is maintained you are going to have a cracking koi on your hands

    Thanks peeps

the only problem with him/her is that the char is not as bright as it was, a negative of growing indoors Sad

Still , the last few i grew on coloured up quickly when back in the pond. Seems ashame not to leave him in the vat as he likes it in there and gets well fed ..lol.

I,ll post a pic in a month or so of his development.

    Cheers

Its nice that G and £1.95 cheaper than mine...lol.. Very Happy

    Lighting....don,t laugh Embarassed

I use a low wattage economy bulb, you know them eco ones were all supposed to have in the house. I also leave the double doors open on the shed and the covers off to get some natural light in there. I wish i had kept some starter units from my fish tanks for some decent tubes . Don,t suppose there is a cheap way of increaseing light levels ?

Its a double starter unit then and some daylight tubes from memory i need ?. £50.00 an,t to bad i,ll budgjet for getting the lighting.
I used the low wattage bulb as i had loads lighting tropical fish tanks in the garage a few years back and the fish always looked great and kept there colour and never got black hair algae like i did with proper tubes , but it isn,t working with the koi if there colour is fadeing . A Shiro i have in there hasn,t lost any colour..yet .

Its a long term hobby so i,ll build up the equipment and get the lighting top on the list Smile

    Apreciate that thanks.

I bought all my lighting "non internet" for the tropicals and i,m supprised how reasonable the tubes and starters are in the links. I paid more than them prices 8 years ago. I,ll add them to my favourites for pay day Very Happy

    Cheers
