Re: My little slice of the ocean
That looks really interesting, especially to see it go from the sparse state it is in at the moment to being a whole live reef. What are the dimmensions of the tank in the picture.

Re: My little slice of the ocean
It is a 90 litre tank - :45cm W X 49cmD X 40cm H (51 HIGH INCLUDING HOOD)
I have had one small coral polyp appear out of the rock overnight
Just making sure that I haven't disturbed the "cycle" too much in the move - all parameters checking ok apart from nitrate which is at 20 - so will hold off on any livestock until i have that down a bit

Re: My little slice of the ocean
Is it the same as a koi pond you hold off on feeding, is it heated ?

the nano reef tank works on the following theory:
- mechanical filtering is covered by the hidden filter bays at the back of the tank which also houses the heater and nano protein skimmer
- biological filtration is provided by the live rock and nothing else
- you can add things like carbon / purigen etc to mop up any stray chemicals
also a vital part to the nano system is what is called the clean up crew - consists of hermit crabs and various snails who will munch away on any larger bits of detritus

Re: My little slice of the ocean
I wish keeping koi was as easy!
tested tonight and nitrates down to 0 and phosphate
Have a colony of red Zoos arriving tomorrow
I have polyps springing to life out of the live rock - each day I am finding something new
