The retro drain is attached to your pump and the water is sucked from the bottom of the pond drawing in the muck as opposed to a pump alone which will suck water from all directions. These are as close as you can get to a true bottom drain

    thanks for the info...

i'm quite keen on the idea of the retro fit bottom drain.

Just thinking about plumbing - would it be suitable to use the flexi piping - and have a gravity fed system? Also, would I need to have the pipes from the drain go through the pond wall? I was thinking of just running the pipe over the wall since this is only to last a couple year...

Well - after a lot of market research Laughing I have come up with a couple of possible filter options with a fair price tag:

    Kockney Koi 10000V
    Oasis Vor-Tec 20000 (or poss 16000)

They both appear to be capable systems - but which would be the better option?

I was considering converting the final chamber into K1 Fluid Bed. Just thinking whether there are any other considerations to do this other than ensuring the k1 media cant fall through the floor grid or end up flowing down the outlet pipes into the pond? I will also require an airpump, and trying to confirm what size I would need? I'm not sure the exact dimensions of the individual chambers but would imagine i'd need atleast 50l of K1? Would a 50l pump be sufficient?

Other items on my list: (feedback welcome please)

    • 30W UVC (Probs TMC or KK?)
    • Oase Eco Aquamax 8000 (Or other cheaper option depending on funds. Suggestions welcome. Like the idea of the aquamax so can run a floating skimmer without the need of a 2nd pump).
    • Profi 2kW heater.

Hi Pete - good to know.

Where are you based? Can you post if necessary?

Can you give me some prices? Or do you have a website?
