i re-built the pond earlier this year so thought i'd share a couple of pictures of the build.
i decided to have a raised pond as one of the issues with the old one was frogs!!!!don't get me wrong i don't mind a couple of them but we experienced plague proportions of them, so raised with an overhang was the way to go.
luckily i caould also do the majority of the build with the fish in situ...in fact they only spent 6 hours in a paddling pool on 2 occasions, once when the original liner was being taken out, cleaned and put in the top veggie filter and then when i started drilling glueing and putting the pipework in place.
framwork all in place...
fish rehomed in the veggie filter while the big dig took place
the dig took 3 days of 7 hours a day with my brother on the barrow and a guesstimate of 7 tonnes of clay soil removed.
until we hit granite so after a beer and a think it was decided to do away with the bottom drain and go for an aerated retro bottom drain....the concrete base was put in but only 3" thick and not structural...well maybe it cabn't go anywhere due to the slab of granite!! but it also meant a perfectly flat pond base.
